This publication has been made under the Development Plan to Promote Tourism in the Serrania de Ronda, is bilingual (English and Spanish), and includes at the back a description and a map of the urban routes of the Serrania de Ronda.

Jimera de Lîbar is placed in the Guadiaro Valley in the middle of the slope just besides the source of the Molinillo stream. The oldest records found about the history of the village date back to the 17th century. However, it is a safe supposition, given the proximity of La Pileta cave and the other remains found from the Bronze age and Phoenicians that there must have been human settlements in the Jimera de Lîbar area in a far-off period.

The village’s name derives from the Arabic “Inz Almaraz”, meaning “fortress or woman’s castle”. There are archaeological remains proof of the existence of an ancient Moorish cemetery under the foundation of the Rosario church. After the conquest of the Christian in 1485, the name of the village changed into Ximera de Lîbar, as it appears on a stone of the public fountain.

The neighbourhood of La Estación appeared as consequence of the creation of the Bobadilla- Algeciras railroad. There, the Virgen de la Salud Hermitage, patron saint of Jimera, is found.

The proposed itinerary starts in the Fuerzas Armadas avenue, from where you can enjoy great views of the Martîn Gil and Palo peaks (1,400 m). Continue on by Mártires de Igueriben street until the Virgen de la Salud square. In this square, you will find the parish church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario as well as big houses dated from the 18th century. Walking to the South by Baja street you will find the Fountain, where you can cool down with the waters coming from the Molinillo stream. Besides the fountain, the old washing place, which is very well preserved, is found. It will evoke you past times, when local women used to do the washing and meet each other there. You cannot leave Jimera without visiting the neighbourhood of La Estación enjoying a nice and short walk.
