Carnival of Nerja. Nerja. February. Unique Festival
This festival has been declared to be of Tourist Interest by the Provincial Council of Málaga.
Please check with the local Town Hall or Municipal Tourism Office for the festival date before planning any sightseeing activities.
Nerja takes a break in February and adds a particularly warm atmosphere to La Axarquía. During Carnival, both its residents and visitors take to the streets and fill them in colour, eagerness, imagination, and creativity. Other localities in the region (including Frigiliana, Vélez-Málaga, and Torrox) play a part too. It is, indeed, an unparalleled celebration in the whole province.
Music, dancing and masks are all over the town while parades such as the Grand Carnival Parade and the Burial of the Chanquete—which is very eye-catching and colourful—spread joy and excitement.
