The last weekend of May is a very special one in Almargen because of the pilgrimage in honour of Our Lady of Fátima (Virgen de Fátima). For its celebration, the villagers take the sacred image on a procession headed for "La Saucedilla", a countryside location that will host a three-day festival. The float carrying Our Lady leads the parade while being followed by other floats adorned by the residents, who take part in a competition rewarding originality and craftsmanship.
The procession itself to "La Saucedilla"—known as "El Camino"—is a key moment. Right after the mass (around 11 a.m.), riders, floats and carriages gather in the town square to share some singing and dancing before accompanying Our Lady along the way.
Every year, the local authorities award the participants taking part in the float and carriage competition. Registrations should be submitted to the Town Hall.
