“Pasión Bandolera” historical recreation in El Burgo. October. Unique Festival
This festival has been declared to be of Tourist Interest by the Provincial Council of Málaga.
Please check with the local Town Hall or Municipal Tourism Office for the festival date before planning any sightseeing activities.
This event first took place in 2012 as a sustainable development initiative for the region, and it is a historical recreation of the world of banditry. It will bring visitors back in time to 1840 to experience a tragic love story. Agustina (the main character) is forced to abandon her role of peasant mother and turn into a fearless captain of bandits due to the cruelty she suffered at the hands of certain landowners. Amidst robberies and confrontations, she meets José, and they both fall deeply in love.
About 150 residents of all ages take part in this representation, which also generates income by boosting local cuisine and promoting traditional professions so they are not entirely forgotten. Among the many attractions, the visitor will find an ancient forge, folk games, taverns with conventional tapas and chacinas (cold meats), old bread ovens to taste some classic bread, chocolate and coffee shops with local pastries, handicrafts, and a place designed to work corn fields in old style.
