Fennel Festival (Hinojá). Algatocín. March. Unique Festival
This festival has been declared to be of Tourist Interest by the Provincial Council of Málaga.

Fennel herbs have a long tradition in Algatocín. Villagers know well that January and February are the ideal months for picking them, and usually cook them in a stew with peas, chorizo, and blood sausage among other ingredients.
During "La Hinojá"—held on the last weekend of March—residents cook the traditional potaje (pulse stew) recipe that will later be offered for free tastings. At the same time, there are live cooking workshops, cultural events, musical performances, guided tours around the village, workshops for children and, on Saturday night, a large street celebration. It is, therefore, a culinary and cultural festival where one can experience local cuisine, enjoy musical performances, and savour fennel stew and tortillitas de cucharas.
The "Concurso con Hinojos" competition is a very popular one held at the festival, whose participants strive to cook a delicious fennel dish.
The Hinojá of Algatocín usually begins on Saturday at around 11 am with the opening of the local food stands in the Alameda of Algatocín. Open-air bars will also be set up in the avenue offering drinks and food, as well as around 30 stands with traditional crafts and food products.
