Casabermeja has alternating shades of green, gold, ash and brown colours over the year. On the horizon, the untouched grey tones of El Torcal, Sierra de Cabras, Sierra de Co, and Sierras de los Camorolos embrace the village, while the streams Arroyo Coche and Guadalmedina (“river of the city”) run down from the peaks above. Steeped in history, the town rises quietly and in a white aura. Many stories are told, both remote and recent, of this place and its inhabitants, who experience local songs, dances and guitar playing in an extraordinary way.

According to some of these stories, the Cante Grande Festival is held on the penultimate Saturday of July. It has its origins in the year 1969 and is considered to be one of the most exceptional in Andalusia. A large number of leading artists have performed on its stages, with the participation of outstanding cantaores like José Menese, Camarón de la Isla, and José Mercé.

Casabermeja is an art lover's paradise, especially for those feeling passionate about flamenco, a deeply rooted art form. In this village, nestled in the foothills of Los Montes de Málaga, flamenco is treasured and enjoyed. It is said that the best thing about the festival is the audience itself since the cante (flamenco singing) is listened to with great respect here. It is safe to say that villagers have mastered the art of listening.

While sitting at cosy dining tables, visitors will enjoy excellent cante and fine local wines. The tables are soaked in refreshing aromas of rosemary and apple mint and carefully arranged in front of a stage that is dominated by the church tower, dressed up in wonderful lights for the occasion.

Also, in the weeks before the opening of the festival, there are numerous activities linked to the world of flamenco scheduled to enhance such an extraordinary Andalusian event.
