Church of Our Lady of Loreto
Built between 1693 and 1699, this church, founded by the Compañîa de Jesús, has the most monumental facade of all the ones found amongst all the Baroque architecture in all of Antequera. It is totally built out of cut stone blocks.
Nowadays it belongs to the religious group known as Filipensas de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, as does the school building next to it.
There is only one single nave on the inside, which is covered by a half-barrel vault and divided into four sections by series of arches. There are very spacious balconies which are connected together and decorated with some extraordinary ornamental plasterwork..
The main altarpiece was built in the 20th century combining Baroque and neo-classical styles. The figure of Cristo Crucificado, from the 17th century, is the most outstanding of all. The stories that are told in images on paintings are themes from the life of Saint Ignacio from the first part of the 18th century.
