C/ San Juan de Dios, s/n.
Zip Code 29600
Monuments and Art > Remarkable Building

The Real de la Misericordia Hospital, previously named the Saint John of God Hospital, was founded by the Catholic Kings and since then it is entitled to carry the Word “Royal” in its name.

Dating back to the XVI century, this was part of the town’s hospital. The lower section of the exterior is made of stone, while the part which houses the small bell tower is whitewashed in traditional style. Built using a combination of Renaissance, Gothic and Mudêjar elements, its highlights are the stone main faèade, the wooden door which bears the royal coat-of-arms as well as that of the Order of San Juan de Dios, and the Mudêjar framework of the chapel roof.
