Hermitage of Our Lady of Villaverde
This hermitage is located between the Tajos of Almorchón and the vertical walls of the Mesas of Villaverde, where stood the village of Bobastro. Alongside the current chapel, renovated during the sixties of the last century, was discovered a necropolis of tombs carved into the rock, anthropomorphic, of Mozarabic period. In front of the chapel, a promontory holds the remains of a watchtower, known as the Moro Rock, indicating the importance of the enclave. Probably the old chapel was another Bobastro extramural churches as sources indicate.
Until the twenties of the last century the festival of Moors and Christians were celebrated here. Today's, pilgrimage mass of the Virgen de Villaverde, Ardales patron, is still celebrated. According to tradition, this Virgen came after the Christian conquest in this place.
