It was totally rebuilt in 1951. However, only some parts of the old castle remain: there is a part of the wall and a remnant of the primitive Arab tower. It boasts a fantastic vantage point that allows visitors a splendid view of the whole Malaga Basin, and during the Santiago and Santa Ana Fairs is home to the Official Delegation Reception Tent.
