Ruins of the Castle of Santillan
The Roman remains are of a fort that was situated some 4 kilometres from the village next to the public park known as the Santillán.
Castellum de Santillán or Castillo de Santillán covers 1400 square metres in two distinct construction stages.
The first stage dates back to the I and II centuries and is made up a series of rooms that were built around two large rectangular halls. This “Villa” was the home of a well-off upper class Roman family. The second stage is from the III century. It was built on the site of the ruins of the previous one as they must have foreseen the need for some kind of defensive wall around the villa. Its floor plan is 24,5 square metres and has square towers at each corner.
