Next to the ancient Hospital de la Caridad (founded by the Reyes Catolicos in the 18th century, is the Iglesia de San Andrês, from the 16th century. It was commissioned by the Franciscan monks and built true to Mudejar style. When the main nave of the church was enlarged an extra nave was added onto the side and was used for the sick, lepers, and those suffering from tuberculosis and became an annex of the already existing hospital.

Some of the most outstanding features of the religious building are the dome, the Mudejar coffered ceiling, the stained-glass windows and the windows. However, perhaps the most impressive of all its elements is the Mannerist faèade and its large three tiered-belfry.

The building is in an “L” shape, which is in itself quite unique. In fact, there are only two others of its kind in Andalusia.

On the inside, the Renaissance style altarpiece is worthy of special mention, even though it is not the original as it was destroyed in the Civil War.
