Church of Our Lady of del Rosario and San León Magno
The parish church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario y San León Magno is located in the higher part of the town, which means that the terrace of this 16th building, which stands on the site of the former mosque, is an excellent vantage point from which to admire the views afforded by the area around Canillas.
Of Mudêjar Gothic style, its interior is divided into three 40-metre-long naves which are marked out by cross-shaped pillars which support pointed arches. The ceiling is covered by a crossbeam structure in the central nave and a hanging framework in the side naves. The exterior of the church features a tower with a square base and octagonal crest similar to those found in neighbouring towns in the Axarquîa region. Inside the chapel we find two smaller 18th century chapels built in baroque style, an image of the Virgen de la Cabeza with silver emblems which dates back to the 18thand 19th centuries, an oil painting of La Piedad from the late 17th century and three medium-sized sculptures: San Antón, from the 18th century; San Francisco Javier, from the early 18th century and San Antonio.
