Honey Museum of Colmenar

Within the resources specifically relevant to the region of Axarquia are the creation of the “Casa-Museo de la Miel de Malaga” (Honey Museum), located in the municipality of Colmenar and whose construction was done on the Local Agrarian Chamber (preceded by the former Colmenar Farmers Brotherhood). The rehabilitation of the building, located across the street Pósito 1, was done in 2002 through the initiative of the Town Hall, with funds from the Department of Employment of the Government of Andalusia. In January 2001, the Local Agrarian Chamber transfer the building to the Town Hall for the actual use.

This Museum is a thematic interpretation centre whose objectives are to improve the knowledge and dissemination of beekeeping to visitors and residents of the province of Malaga, including honey, its varieties, properties, benefits and features, as well as the specificities and utilities own beekeeping, both on the vegetation and on the cultivated wild. Further, it aims to be an interpretation centre of beekeeping for schools and for the tourism in the area, more and more interested in cultural and educational offerings, complementary to existing (dining, beaches, etc.).

This action has been funded by the Plan to Promote Tourism in the Axarquia.
