On the 27th of October 2003, the King and Queen of Spain inaugurated the world’s only Picasso museum covering all stages of the artist’s career and a centre to complement the other three museums devoted to the artist’s work in Paris, Barcelona and Antibes.

The opening of the Museo Picasso, an initiative supported by of two of the artist’s descendants, Christine and Bernard Picasso, as well as by the Andalusian regional government, marked the definitive return of the artist to his native city in the shape of a permanent collection of his work.

Its collections are not only private but personal. This is art that Picasso gave to his family, the art that he kept for himself, and what happened to his heirs after his death. The works of Picasso Museum are presented in chronological order and reflect each stage of its development as an artist.

There are twelve rooms and 630 meters cuadraddos, 204 works donated by Picasso family. Different styles, themes and media. From 1894 (date of the first piece on display) until 1972 (one year before his death) the visit becomes a stunning visual biography, almost photographic, an artist whose personal and professional career was definitely marked by four pillars: women (the female figure is the driving force behind its creation), family, friends and obsessions.
