The Gibralfaro Interpretation Centre.
The site of the former castle arsenal is now home to an exhibition which bears testimony to the castle’s role as a military garrison and coastal watchtower from 1487, when Malaga was incorporated into the territories of the Crown of Castile, until 1925, when a Royal Decree issued by Alfonso XIII gave it to the city for civic usage. The castle served as a military facility throughout this 483-year period.
A combination of maps depicting the development of the city, weapons, uniforms and objects pertaining to daily life (models, stamps, playing cards, navigational tools and cartographer’s maps), this exhibition reflects both the evolution of the garrison and the transformation of the city to which it was attached.
