It is an octagonal room that corresponds to the crypt of a mausoleum, a monumental funerary building built towards the end of the 4th century AD, about 1600 years ago. An underground room is preserved, with walls more than a meter thick and pavement with boulders. The upper room of the mausoleum would probably be dedicated to a funeral chapel. Among the debris fallen inside the crypt, elements of the decoration of the building have been recovered, among which are fragments of marble plates from various quarries throughout the Mediterranean and numerous colored tesserae (mosaic pieces). This type of funerary monuments spread throughout the Roman Empire associated with the expansion of Christianity, and it should have been built by the family that owns the extensive villa located to the west of the mausoleum, from which walls and pavements in the residential area have been excavated, salted sinks, amphorae manufacturing furnaces for the export of salted fish and burials from II-VI centuries d.
