Casa del Conde Pinofiel 2. Antequera

House of Count Pinofiel

C/ De las Tercias, 10
Zip Code 29200
Monuments and Art > Manor House

This building is one of the best conserved in Antequera. An example of the town’s civil Baroque, it was commissioned by the first Count of Pinofiel, a minister of Carlos 3rd, from whom it received its name in recognition of services rendered to the Crown.

It is one of the few domestic buildings of the period of whose date and architect we can be certain, as the front of the palace bears the words: "Juan de Navarrete me fecit. Año de 1762".

Immaculately conserved, the building was conceived as a small-scale mansion.

The exterior is of the Antequera “framework-faèade” variety, built entirely of bare brick with the exception of the front, whose two levels employ white limestone from El Torcal, the lower section featuring highly-original pillars crowned with oval Tuscan capitals, while the highlight of the upper level is provided by two splendid coats of arms whose broken-line brick frames are a throwback to the Mudêjar tradition.

Worthy of note inside the building are the patio with its three galleries of Tuscan columns in red limestone and the staircase, richly decorated with Baroque plasterwork.
