Start at the Church of St James the Great (Santiago), King’s Garden (Jardines del Rey), and Granada Gate in Antequera. Once you have left behind the complex of dolmens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will go by Los Almendros (Almond Trees) Way and exit Antequera, so you can continue the itinerary along the long-distance European Path 7, stage 4 (GR-7 E-4). This is an urban area, so you need to be careful with the sins and pay attention to traffic.
After you have gone across the bridge over La Villa River, a viaduct at the railway between Antequera-Granada and the Guadalhorce River, where you will see a path on the right which goes to a must-see monument - Romeral Dolmens, you will go over a bridge under Malaga’s motorway A-45 (kilometric point 5.9). This is where you will get into the Depression of Antequera with fertile land, where herbaceous plants, such as wheat and sunflower, are cultivated.
When you go across the bridge over the motorway A-92, continue walking straight on along a track surrounded by olive trees and sunflower fields. This way leads to Cartaojal village (kilometric point 11.1). Leave the track at the northernmost point after you have taken a breath before your last challenge along this stage. You will first walk along an asphalt road, which changes into a dirt track that leads to the bottom of the Sierra de Arcas, which you can go around at Barranco Farmhouse (kilometric point 18.5) between olive groves. Finally, you will walk along Arrieros Way, which ends in Villanueva de Algaidas in the south in order to get to Peregrinos [travellers] Hostal (Albergue de Peregrinos).
