GR 249.3. Section 1. Stage Villanueva de Tapia - Cuevas de San Marcos
This alternative trail of the Great Málaga Path (249 Long-distance Path) runs from Villanueva de Tapia along an old route that leads to Villanueva de Algaidas. It takes 2.7 km (1.68 miles) to get to la Morena farmhouse. The Great Málaga Path forks there and splits into the old route on one side and a new alternative trail to Cuevas de San Marcos.
You will go through olive groves towards a neighbourhood called La Parilla in Villanueva de Algaidas. Halfway from there, there is to go across the A-6107 Road fromVillanueva Tapia to Villanueva Algaidas. You must be very careful while crossing even though there is not much traffic along this road. The trail continues along a track that goes from Villanueva de Tapia to Cuevas Bajas up to La Parilla village or neighbourhood. Then you need to go along the MA-6101 for 400 m towards the road of Iznájar.
Afterwards, take the way towards La Blanquilla village in Villanueva de Algaidas. A bit before getting to the village, you will see an asphalt road and continue walking for a kilometre (less than a mile). Once you leave the above urban area, the way that turns into a dirt track will take you to the crossroad where you need to turn towards the country house Cerro de los Bueyes. This is where you will get off the way from Vilanueva de Tapia to Cuevas Bajas.
At the country house, go some 500 m down along a livestock track of Conejo in the town of Cuevas de San Marcos. You will go off the route and walk parallel to the Puercos Streem and then up to Cuevas de San Marcos along a way, which is mostly an asphalt road, and leads onto Villanueva de Tapia track. This livestock track or drovers' road takes to the small town where this section ends.
