Acinipo. Montecorto

Of prehistoric origins, Montecorto is a small town in the province of Malaga located on the slope of the mountainous hill Malaver, in the Serrania de Ronda. In your visit to this town you will find traces of all the cultures that have populated Andalusia over the millennia. A necropolis and a spectacular Roman theatre, or a Moorish castle, are some of the treasures guarded by this city located next to Natural Park of Sierra de Grazalema.

IN MONTECORTO YOU CANNOT MISS

MONUMENTS

In Montecorto, you will discover the past of the region through its ancient inhabitants. from the Neolithic, we will find the necropolis known as the Dolmen del Chopo. Although one of the most spectacular remains belong to Roman times. It is related with the ruins of Acinipo, located at 15 kilometers from the center of Montecorto. Only part of the amphitheatre carved into the rock is preserved, but in the past, there was a temple and several public buildings. In the surrounding area, the remains have been found with respect to coins, inscriptions or capitals, by giving us an idea of the importance of this city in Roman times.

From the Arab period, dates the Castillo del Moral and Torre de Audita (Tower of Audita), although little remains of these buildings because they were destroyed by the Catholic Monarchs in their conquest of Ronda. To observe the Castle, we recommend you doing it from the viewpoint of the famous Moorish border, located at kilometre 20 of the highway A-2300. In addition to the Castle, from this place, you will have wonderful views of the Sierra de Ronda, with its lush landscape of pines.

Montecorto environment is full of water, and this is the reason why in 2006 the Fountain of Dolmen rose. Located in the plaza, Pablo Ruiz Picasso, this fountain is a tribute to the history of the town, a history linked to water. In this sense, it is also interesting to see the acequita Benito, a canal of rocks crossing Montecorto from the area known as ""the twelve pillars"" until a watermill located in the suburbs.

Near the Fuente del Dolmen we find the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, patroness of Montecorto. After several landslides and reforms, it was last rebuilt in 2002.
