El Cerro de Santi Petri

Route On foot
Difficulty - Easy
Routes

This route runs between the Campanillas river and the Guadalhorce. It is an area where we can still find traces of the rural atmosphere of Malaga in a short, easy route and enjoying magnificent views.

To carry out this route we will be located in Almogía, we will cross the town and we will continue along the MA-422 in the direction of Villanueva de la Concepción. After about 4 km, we will see, on the left, some ceramic indicators that read "Ermita" and "Santi Petri". We will take this lane but be careful because, after 1 km, there is a fork and we must take the path to the right. After about 3.1 km we will be at a pass (milestone-1) above a cork oak forest. Although we could continue a bit more with the car, we will leave it here to enjoy the route directly.

We will follow the signs of the "Al Mexía" school workshop, leaving the cork oak forest behind to gain height, and seeing some farmhouses, some in use and others abandoned. We will go through the typical terrain of slates and sandstones. Advancing soon we will see the Cerro de Santi Petri. After having traveled 2.6 km from milestone-1 we will find ourselves at the foot of the hill (milestone-2) where a sign indicates the ascent up a steep path of 797 m. We recommend using this steep path to descend and for the ascent we will do something more comfortable: we will continue along the track, bordering the Santi Petri along its north slope for about 800m until we see the Sierra de Mijas and the Hoya de Málaga (milestone-3); from here a path starts towards the summit which we will reach in 10 minutes (milestone-4). Already at the top we can see a large part of the province: starting from the south and going clockwise, we will see Alhaurín and Cartama, Coín, Monda and Sierra de Alpujata, Guaro, Tolox and Sierra de las Nieves, Alozaina, Casarabonela and Sierra Prieta; closer Alora, Sierras de Aguas and Alcaparaín, Huma and Sierra del Valla de Abdalajís; to the North La Joya and Camorro Alto, El Torcal, Las Cabras, El Codo, Camarolos, Los Montes, Sierra Tejeda and Almijara.

We will do the descent following a path between some palm trees in a northeasterly direction until the coming lane at the height of Milestone-2. Then we will retrace the path to the car. Another alternative is to go down exactly where we went up.
