This initiative was born at Christmas in 2016 when it was added to the traditional Christmas celebration at Andalusian Square (Plaza de Andalucía in the heart of the Protegidas neighbourhood). It has always been supported by the Popular Traditions Association of the Town of Nerja, which works with this body on the improvement of the festival.

Every December, the above neighbourhood turns into the Nativity Scene, after the Residents Association and the Town Hall work together on creating the two thousand-year-old crib scene at the Plaza de Andalucía with all the details from that period.

This live Nativity Scene shows the visitors a lot of features through theatre plays and decorations. More than one hundred and twenty residents dress up as Jesus Christ's contemporaries in order to represent his birth and create the atmosphere of those times by acting as laundresses, carpenters or spinners.

There are three different stages: entrance, market and the Nativity Scene. The latter is placed at a rather realistic pond with a duck which is very popular among children lives among other animals.
