Despite being an inland village, Ojén is integrated into the Western Costa del Sol region, not only for its geographical proximity to Marbella and Mijas but for sharing very similar weather. The municipality sits between Sierra Blanca and Sierra Alpujata to the north, spreading southwards along the Real and Ojén valleys. Steep slopes and gullies are some of the features that constitute a varied, spectacular landscape. In the heart of this rugged mountain scenery, the village boasts Moorish origins and steep streets offering picturesque spots that turn it into one of the most beautiful urban landscapes in Málaga.

Against this splendid backdrop, the villagers come together to celebrate the Popular Tostón. This celebration originated in the Juanar and El Puerto areas during the chestnut harvest season. Families and friends would spend all day in the field on November 1st roasting chestnuts and having aguardiente liqueur. Nowadays, the roasted chestnut scent fills the town square on the first Sunday in November, shortly after All Saints' Day, as part of the celebration of the Tostón Popular festival.

The event first started as a festivity for the elderly but has now become a celebration in which everyone takes part. From noon onwards, people of all ages gather around the chestnut-roasting spot and grab their chestnut cones before heading off to eat them at the square along with some liqueurs—either with or without alcohol.
