In contrast to the rough landscape in most of the province of Málaga, Antequera's extensive territory surprisingly has the smoothest terrain in the whole region. On this plain stretches the municipality of Mollina, with the only noticeable slope being the low-lying range called Sierra de Mollina.

Mollina fields are ideal for olive trees and grains, and for the last few decades have been used for its renowned vines. Vineyards introduction in the area has encouraged the town to celebrate the Grape Harvest Festival, one of the most deeply rooted in the northern region.

The festival is held during the second weekend in September and is of great cultural and economic interest. It is announced by outstanding personalities that put into words the dedication of the farmworkers, who yearly return home to celebrate the end of the grape harvest.

These are joyful celebrations with singing and dancing performances taking over the streets. Of course, there is also a regional wine tasting, including Tierra de Mollina's acclaimed wines.

During these days, the Plaza de Atenas square is brimming with popular activities and the widely-known wine tastings. Indeed, the festival focuses on celebrating the region's winemaking and farming traditions at their best. Not only can visitors savour the most excellent wines of the area, but they can also enjoy bike rides, horseback ridings, equestrian exhibitions, and vine-growing workshops.
