Cachorreña Festival. Alhaurín el Grande. May. Unique Festival
This festival has been declared to be of Tourist Interest by the Provincial Council of Málaga.
Please check with the local Town Hall or Municipal Tourism Office for the festival date before planning any sightseeing activities.
Every year, the Town Hall of Alhaurín el Grande celebrates the Cachorreña Festival. The event is organized around the day of San Isidro Labrador and aims to promote agriculture and traditional cuisine, offering vegetables and artisanal delicacies such as cheese, honey, and fig bread among many others.
The day begins with a Mass in honour of the patron saint of farmers, and during the morning, the impressive exhibition of the 500 lacemakers takes place. They gather at the Encuentro de Bolillos (Meeting of Bobbins) to perform the ancient art of traditional threadwork and bobbins, which is highly prestigious for its complexity and beauty.
At lunchtime, visitors can taste the Cachorreña—a folk dish made with tomatoes, onions, garlic, potatoes, bread, cod and squeezed oranges—and the mojete (a local salad). Also, a regional market and an exhibition of classic cars can be visited.
