"Nights of the beautiful Jarifa," tells the adventures and misadventures of two lovers, Abindarráez and Jarifa, somewhere between 1410 and 1424. The earliest known written version dates from 1551 and is considered one of the first literary expressions dignifying the role of Muslims.

At the end of September, the old town of Cártama becomes for two days the Andalusian village it once was, featuring candlelit streets with over a hundred medieval stalls selling handicrafts, cheese, cold meats, and pastries among others.

Many shops, associations, bars and restaurants contribute selflessly by decorating premises and terraces. As a result, Nights of the beautiful Jarifa is now a popular event in the region with an increasing number of visitors every year.
