The structures known as Neveros are situated at the Puerto de los Ventisqueros pass in the Sierra de las Nieves. Built 1,600 metres above sea level, they are circular constructions half a metre deep and between 8 and 20 metres in diameter. Snow was deposited in them during winter and transported by beasts of burden at night in summer to the whole of the province of Málaga for use as refreshments and in food conservation.
Now restored, they are difficult to reach and can only be visited in winter when there is snow.
