ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Situated over the Humaina Stream, this colossal hydraulic system is built of brick and is 75 m long, 15 m high, 2.5 m wide at the top and 5.8 m wide at the bottom. It has four arches of 7 m in diameter, and its square support columns measure 3 x 34 m, including bow-shaped (upstream) and circular (downstream) breakwaters. The breakwaters are joined to the pilasters of the parapet by way of small buttresses, topped by a simple moulding that acts as impost block for the arches.
This aqueduct was built to increase the water supply to the city as, even in those days, Malaga lacked the most elemental water system and hygiene measures, although it is known that since Roman times there had been attempts, proposals and projects designed to boost and improve the supply to the city.
