Manantial de los Cascajales – Molino del Nacimiento (Natural spring of Los Cascajales – Mill of El Nacimiento)

In the municipality of Benaojan sources are abundant, which explains the existing number of pools. Some people know Benaojan as the villages of the thousand sources.

Benaojan has two of the most unique natural springs in the Serrania de Ronda, although they do not give life to major rivers. There are the Molino del Santo, in the train station, and the Cueva del Gato, a grotto where water flows throughout the year, although, in reality, is the end of an underground river that practically born in Montejaque. In both cases, its waters feed the Guadiaro river.

Benaoján has two of the most unique natural springs in the Serranía de Ronda, although they do not give life to major rivers. There are the Molino del Santo—in the train station—and the Cueva del Gato, a grotto where water flows throughout the year, although it actually is the end of an underground river that practically born in Montejaque. In both cases, its waters feed the Guadiaro river.

Concerning water, a total of 338 points of particular importance in the whole of Andalusia have been identified, of which 117 wells and springs have high average rating and 114 just high. Of these, Málaga has 50. But the very high value in the province are 9 points, many of them as popular as the source of the Cueva del Gato; the Carratraca spa; the spring of the Genal river source in Igualeja; the Fountain of the 100 spouts in Villanueva del Trabuco; the lagoon of Fuente de Piedra; the source of Zarzalones in Yunquera; that of the Fajara, in Canillas de Aceituno, or the Cascajales we talked about in Benaoján.

The origin of the natural spring of Los Cascajales is water accumulation that occurs in the limestone and outside surfaces when contacting impervious geological materials. In this case, El Nacimiento natural spring collects the water of the “polje” of Benaoján and nearby mountains.
