Castillo del Moro bird observatory, Casares (Unique Site)
Recommended month to visit it: May.
In Casares the legends intermingle creating a foundation of stories that has grown strong in the imagination of its neighbours.
Anyone who walks the twisting and winding streets of this town is walking through the history of Málaga. From its privileged watchtower the city watched over the Campo of Gibraltar [Gibraltar Countryside], the pass of Ronda to the Coast, the valley of the Genal river... As we leave the municipality towards the Cañá Juanito Juan, or el Calvario, we will reach the Castillo del Moro [Castle of the Moor], where the remains of an old munitions dump from the Peninsular War rest besides a Bird Observatory: a perfect place for the observation of the multitude of bird species during the migration seasons and the important griffon vulture colonies that thrive in the Sierra Crestellina.
