Parajes de Cuevas del Becerro

Cuevas del Becerro is situated in a valley of immense natural beauty. The mountains and hills that surround it have acted like fortresses, protecting the town over the years.

The town lies to the north of the Sierra Espartosa, the prolongation of the Sierra de los Merinos, its shape akin to that of a small bucket with an average height of 780 metres, surrounded by limestone mountains of medium height whose slopes are so steep that at certain points they almost seem like walls.

This depression has been filled by deposits of marl and clay and small patches of calcareous sandstone. This band continues as far as Serrato and is crossed by the River Cuevas, which has bedded down well in the terrain. The height of the town ranges from 550 metres to just over 950 metres, the lower altitude corresponding to the bed of the River Cuevas, which gradually falls from 735 to 550 metres just before it exits the boundaries of Cuevas del Becerro prior to entering Ronda.
