Gato Cave (Natural Monument in the Province)
Rules - Decreto 383/2011, 30 dic. Junta de Andalucía
Natural Area > Natural Monument
Gato Cave is the entrance to the cave system called Hundidero-Gato, although it is commonly called Gato. This is the most important system in Andalusia with more than 9000 surveyed metres, and one of the largest systems in Spain. It has perennial streams, chasms, lakes and sumps and can be dangerous due to heavy rain in the area, which makes the underground river bed change fast. Certain deaths are linked to this phenomena and the water temperature.
