Visitor Centre Jose Antonio Valverde
Located on Cerro del Palo, at the northern end of the lagoon, the José Antonio Valverde visitor center (a biologist who discovered the flamingo colony for science, 1926-2003) has excellent facilities where we can interpret the main wetland values and get closer to the biology of the main species, the pink flamingo. In its most immediate surroundings we will find a path that leads us to different observatories of great interest. The flooded areas that we find in the same access to the center are especially recommended during migration times, given the diversity of species that can be observed, among which it is worth highlighting the group of wading birds (up to 14 different species simultaneously at the beginning of May of 2016). In the spring season, it is also a good place to observe the Slender-billed Gull and Terns (Common, White-faced, and White-winged). In the lagoon, we can also enjoy at a short distance pink flamingo, white-headed duck, red duck, European spoon, among others. During the winter the concentration of sooty gulls in the lagoon is remarkable, and during the summer period it will be the characteristic call of the black-billed gull that draws our attention.
In the visitor center it is possible to rent optical equipment and organize a guided tour of the lagoon.
