El Ventero del Trabuco (Distinguished Establishments)
This inn is named after a legend which tells a story about the innkeeper of a small traditional hotel in Villanueva del Trabuco, which was at the crossroad of the main cattle tracks. He used go to Archidona to purchase groceries, but was always robbed along the way. This is why he decided to buy a blunderbuss (trabuco in Spanish) and robbers stopped attacking him. From then on, people would say: ‘there he goes, the Ventero del Trabuco [the Blunderbuss Innkeeper]’.
This is why the owners of the inn decorated it with plenty of implements and old tools with great artistic value.
Following their motto: ‘you cannot have a good meal if you are in a hurry’, this restaurant has turned into a typical inn in the Sierra Norte of Málaga (The Northern Málaga Mountains), where you can taste the best traditional dishes from the area as well as some incredible tapas. Some of the best dishes contain meat such as lamb, veal, and poultry. Meat on the stone or large chops (some of more than 500 g) are the most famous.
Good bread, excellent olive oil called 100 Caños and a long wine list with fruity, dry, semi-sweet, rosê, and red wines from Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Castilla-La Mancha, Valdepeñas, as well as white wines and cavas (Spanish sparkling wine), can please even the most demanding palate.
Their dishes with a traditional and home-made touch, which is adjusted to the taste of today’s customers, are made from local products with great patience and proficiency.
This establishment is in the centre of the village Villanueva del Trabuco by the Guadalhorce River, and only 45 kilometres away from Málaga.
