Bernando de Gálvez, an Outstanding man in the American Revolutionary War

As every year round 4th July, Macharaviaya is getting decorated to celebrate the American War of Independence and commemorate the victory of their most famous inhabitant Bernardo de Gálvez.

He played a decisive role in the American Revolutionary War and lead the army in a crucial Battle of Pensacola, where he earned a victory against the British. His leadership of the colonial troops against the British in Florida was so important for the American independence that he walked by George Washington in the victory parade along the streets of Philadelphia.

During this celebration in Macharaviaya, which was declared a Unique Festivity in the Province of Málaga, local men wear costumes from that period and women beautiful colonial dresses. Proud of their history and tradition, local people parade through the town up to the Bernardo de Gálvez Square, where they perform the events which lead to the American independence and the Battle of Pensacola.
