“Torre del Cante” Flamenco Festival. Alhaurín de la Torre. June. Unique Festival

This festival has been declared to be of Tourist Interest by the Provincial Council of Málaga.
Please check with the local Town Hall or Municipal Tourism Office for the festival date before planning any sightseeing activities.

If you want to get a better insight into Málaga, you need to delve into its villages and discover the simplicity and hospitality of its people. Due to its strategic location—from before Romanisation to the present day—it has been a favoured place for the development of a thriving village.

This municipality has the charms of the Guadalhorce Valley and the influence of the Costa del Sol capital's cosmopolitanism, as its metropolitan area is located “between the sea and the mountain”.

When the magical festival of San Juan is approaching, Alhaurín de la Torre plays host to “Torre del Cante”, one of the most prestigious and deeply-rooted flamenco festivals in Spain. It opens the festival season featuring great leading figures from the world of flamenco cante (singing), guitar playing and dance. Since its start in 1974,

it has brought together the most celebrated artists in the genre. Each year, however, a clear commitment is made to the avant-garde, seeking the maximum balance between traditional cantaores (flamenco singers) and the most innovative ones. This festival’s unique nature lies in its success in gathering the best of flamenco in one evening.

It takes place on the Saturday before San Juan with thousands of spectators longing to experience one of the most traditional flamenco shows in Andalusia. On one occasion, over 6,000 people attended a Camarón de la Isla performance featuring artists such as Fosforito, Lebrijano, José Mercé, El Cabrero, Enrique Morente, Carmen Linares, Manuela Carrasco, Paco Cepero, El Farruco and Diego el Cigala.
Significant attendance figures prove that flamenco is not only for small audiences—as a result of such events, which bring flamenco culture closer to a large number of people, new audiences are attracted.
