Feria y fiestas mayores de San Juan
These unique celebrations last for five days. You will be able to enjoy the day fair at the urban setting and the night fair at the fair’s precinct. This fascinating fair is not just folkloric but also gastronomic, because you will have the opportunity of tasting for free the most exquisite dishes, as well as performing a virtually endless list of recreational activities: colourful stands, attractions, concerts, exhibitions of equestrian skills, sporting activities, pasacalles (lively music played by bands in the streets), firework displays, the most incredible musical bands, the typical verdiales dances, bullfight performances... and as a final brooch the mass and the popular procession of the Patron Saint along the village’s streets. On the following weekend you can participate in the pilgrimage of San Juan, under the shadow of the pines of Arroyo del Pinar where people from different places come to take part in the horse-breaking contests and try to win the award for the best harnessed cart and for the best paella cook. The Town Council invites with some delicious “espetos” (sardines baked on an open wood fire) at the rhythm of the traditional verdiales (Malaga’s typical flamenco style). Go ahead, give it a try!
