Holy Week is the most important celebration in Arriate, when this village gets specially decorated. This is because Easter festivities have a long tradition in this place. The origin of Our Father Jesus Brotherhood (Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesús) goes back to the 17th century, while the Brotherhood of Jesus Christ and the Holy Blood and Burial of Jesus (Hermandad del Santísimo Cristo de la Sangre y Santo Entierro de Cristo), which was canonized in 1728, was established at the end of the 16th century.

Holy Week in this mountain village is peculiar because local people are divided between two groups during the celebrations. In one of them are those who belong to the Brotherhood of Jesus Christ and the Holy Blood, and the others are Jesuits from the Royal, Age-Old and Vulnerable Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus from Nazareth (Muy Antigua y Venerable Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno).

The eve before Holy Thursday is a very solemn event full of mystery with a procession that moves along the most important street, when the floats with Jesus and Virgin Mary meet.

Other unique feature of this Holy Week is that it is the only town in the province where you can see a parade on Holy Saturday. It is a solemn procession of the Holy Burial of Jesus, when Jesuits wear their traditional purple tunic and a white hood with conical tip.
