Algatocín. Urban and Nature landscape of Serrania de Ronda (in Spanish)

One of the places where nature and culture shows a special bond is the Serrania de Ronda, a territory that extends over 1536 square kilometers and includes 22 municipalities. Strategically located in the heart of Andalusia, south of the Cordillera Penibética, is bounded on the west by the Jerez countryside, the countryside north of Seville, to the east by the Guadalhorce Valley and the South in the Costa del Sol. The Serranía is home of an immense natural treasure and heritage that only in few places of the peninsula can be found.

Its terrain consists of a high plateau over 700 meters above sea level, although some of the dimensions far exceed the 1,500 meters, as the turret which reaches 1919 meters high. Three valleys mark the territory geographically and socially, the Guadalhorce valley (that opens to the north), southwest Guadiaro Valley and Southeast Valley Genal. In the center, Round Plateau plays a key role as a link of the three valleys.
The most valuable aspect of this area is its nature, where protected areas occupy most of its length. In this land the tourist can find several Natural Parks of great ecological and scientific value, as the one of the Alcornocales, Sierra de Grazalema and Sierra de las Nieves, as well as the Natural Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja, valuable space.
