Torremuelle Watchtower, Benalmádena (Unique Site)

Monuments and Art > The Tower and The Fortified Building

Recommended month to visit it: July.

Benalmádena: the “sentry of the coast” since long centuries past with its two eyes that watch over the Mediterranean: the Torre de Quebrada and the Torre del Muelle.

Torremuelle is an important berth since ancient times, as witnessed by the underwater remains and the nearby Mauritania Villa. It was an enclave of great importance due to the easiness of the mooring for the ships and the proximity to the Castle of Benalmádena, which still has a good view over this watchtower, located on a small mound on the beach, presiding two small inlets.

The surroundings of the tower have gardens and there are currently no obstacles to obstruct its view of the horizon. It is unknown when it was built, but its actual shape is consequence of certain reconstruction carried out in the 16th century. It has a barrel-shaped plan that rises into a circular claw.
