Castle of Bentomiz, Arenas (Unique Site)
Recommended month to visit it: May.
The urban landscape of Arenas is typical of Andalusia: narrow and steep streets, picturesque whitewashed houses – pure Andalusian heritage. It sits near to the sea, surrounded by coastal mountains such as the Bentomiz, of steep slopes and delightful views of the coast and the region of the Axarquía. This mount has the name of a castle that once had a great relevance as a military outpost. It formed and important defensive triangle with the castles of Comares and Zalia, due to the double enclosures and its irregular topography, although Bentomiz is different from the others in techniques and materials. There is a resemblance between the cistern in Bentomiz and the one found in the Alhambra in Granada, below the Palace of Charles V.
