Tower of Benalauría (Unique Site)
Recommended month to visit it: November.
At the beginning of the 8th century, several Berber lineages settled half way up the mountain side over the Genal river. One of them, the Banu-I-Hawria, gave name to this privileged setting in the province of Málaga: Benalauría.
Out of the A-369 road, which in several points meets with the old road from the Campo de Gibraltar to the Serranía de Ronda, there is a trail that sets off to the village. On our way there, we find an overlook which offers wonderful sights of the town and the mountain range that surrounds us.
We are at the overlook of the Virgen del Rosario [Virgin of the Rosary] – the patron of Benalauría –, a spectacular vantage point from where to marvel at the beauty of the Valle del Genal. An ornamental tower, built by the town to resemble the ancient watchtowers, presides the overlook.
