Palace of Marqueses de Beniel
A palace built in Late Renaissance Mudêjar style with magnificent panelling on the stairwell, its grandeur, beauty and influence on domestic architecture in Vêlez-Málaga make it the most significant example of civil architecture in the town.
It was built in the early 17th century by Alonso de Molina y Medrano and inherited by his nephews, the Marquises of Beniel , Murcia, who let it as residential quarters to the Captaincy General and the Costa de Granada Regiment.
During the 19th century, it was used both as law courts and the town hall, fulfilling the later function for most of the 20th century. It now serves as the headquarters of the Fundación Marîa Zambrano and of several municipal services.
