Fray Leopoldo´s House
Alpandeire is the birthplace of Francisco Tomas Marquez Sanchez, better known as Fray Leopoldo (born on June 24, 1864). This lay brother of the Order of the Capuchins, sample of service, obedience and love to God, dedicated his life to serve the poor. Precisely, his birthplace has become a monument of historical and artistic interest, as well as a museum, recreating the time and details of his belongings. The friar was named “blessed” by the Catholic Church on September 12, 2010.
There is also a monument erected in his memory at the exit of the village on the road to Farajan, close to a drinking water source. Some people believe that this water has miraculous effects. Every 24th of June, about seven in the evening, is celebrated a Mass in the church of the village recalling the date of his birth. After that, a procession with the Virgin, to which Fray Leopoldo was so devoted, goes to its monument. There, among all attendees, are drawn Fray Leopoldo objects, like paintings, medals, key chains, etc ...
