Monastery of San Francisco
The original convent was built in the 16th century on the site occupied by King Fernando, el Católico, during the siege of the town in 1485 and which was later given to Juan Dávila when the land conquered was shared out. It was later destroyed by French troops during the War of Independence and subsequently repaired. Only the church, with its Gothic-Mudêjar Latin cross ground plan, now survives. The central nave, which originally featured a coffered ceiling structure that was destroyed by fire in 1936, is now crowned by a half-barrel vault with lunettes.
