After the “Puente nuevo” (New Bridge) fell down in 1741, the need was felt for an improvement to the entrance of the town due to the large number of visitors and traders that used it on a daily basis.

According to the inscription on the stone located next to the bridge, the old “Puerta Árabe” of the bridge was substituted and enlargened during the reign of the first Borbón to sit on the throne; Felipe 5th in 1742. It is an monumental arch that lies on the "Puente Viejo" (Old Bridge) road and it was so well done that became a harmonious element in the urban development in this area.

This emblematic monument has a double arch formation which is made of hewn stone blocks. It has a truncated pediment with pinnacles and is decorated with the coat of arms of the Borbon royal family on the outward facing blocks.

Next to the gate there is a seat popularly known as the “Sillón del Moro” (the throne of the Moorish King).
