Palace of the Marquis of La Sonora
PERIOD 18th century
DESCRIPTION
This is one of the oldest mansions in calle Granada. Fêlix Solacio, assientist of the Macharaviaya Playing Card Factory, commissioned the building in 1789, although it later passed into the hands of the Gálvez family.
The faèade constituted the very latest in domestic architecture of the times and a model for many others, its design emulated in wall spans, wrought iron railings and decorations, portals, attics, etc.
It has three floors and the entrance portico is made of stone with elements such as boxed pilasters, modillions and entablement with a frieze of festoons and flowers. The top section contains the coat of arms of the Gálvez family in the centre. Behind the entrance portal there is a lobby and the stairway, also with a beautiful marble portal that narrows towards the top and is comprised of two Tuscan columns topped by vases over which the entablement is tucked, forming curved pediments broken in various gradients and crowned by a curved top piece with overhanging palm leaves.
