MONUMENT TO TORRIJOS
PERIOD 19th century
DESCRIPTION
Monument dedicated to General Torrijos and his colleagues, executed on the Malaga beaches on 11 December 1831.
In the middle of the square, surrounded by a wide railing, stands the marble like monument erected by the municipality in memory of General Josê Marîa Torrijos and his colleagues.
It is one of the most important and characteristic 19th century civil town monuments in Malaga. It comprises a crypt, where the General's remains were laid to rest, and an elegant pedestal on a square, good-sized base that finishes in a tall pyramid, on which a bronze crown of laurel is dedicated to each of the 49 victims of that sad event.
The monument is topped by another crown placed on the apex of the pyramid.
