Statue of Hans Christian Andersen
The Danish Royal Family commissioned this bronze statue, which is the work of the sculptor Marîa Córdoba.
It shows the Danish author sitting on a bench in a relaxed pose, as he was probably seen on many an occasion during his stay in our city at the beginning of October 1862 and narrated in his book I Spanien (In Spain). Captivated by the beauty of Malaga, its sea, its luminosity and its people, the author of The Mermaid, wrote "in no other Spanish city have I been as happy and as comfortable as in Malaga."
The statue is an invitation to go and sit down next to the writer, to admire and respect his works and to appreciate the pioneering value of his travels, as his journey was one of the first cultural tours of the 19th century.
